LUIS GUZMAN

BASS

Hailing from a family of musicians in Mexico and now residing in New York City, Luis Guzman has been performing Lila Downs, Thalia and Rocktopia, touring internationally and appearing at notable venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Montreal Jazz Festival and South by Southwest as well as television appearances including the Latin Grammy Awards. In 2013 , he also worked on the musical programming and arranging for La Voz Kids, part of the international singing competition franchise --The Voice, and he performed along side the contests and guest artists on the television broadcast including Paulina Rubio, Prince Royce, Jesse and Joy, and Ricky Martin.

A bassist and composer, Luis has a diverse foundation in Latin, Rock, Pop, R&B and Jazz musical forms embodied by his personal and professional experience. Luis has appeared with renowned artists including Celso Piña, Toto la Momposina, Marta Gomez, Gregorio Uribe, Chris Washburn and Chuchito Valdez. Behind the scenes, Luis served as musical director and bass player for R&B singer James Kinney and he consulted as composer and arranger for Sebastien de la Cruz, semi-finalist and first mariachi ever to appear on America's Got Talent.

Luis received early training in classical music at the Conservatorio de las Rosas, the oldest conservatory in the Americas, located in Morelia, Michoacan (Mexico). Later awarded the merit-based World Tour Scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, Luis went on to earn a Bachelor of Music, Magna Cum Laude, in Jazz Composition. In the spirit of "paying it forward" , Luis continues to recognize the importance of music education by participating in programs for the New Jersey Performing Arts Center's elite Jazz for Teens program and teaching for New York City's Learning through Extended Arts Program and other youth music programs as his schedule permits.
